Aside for the Fergie look-alike at one of the local Lady Boy shows, we have to admit we were a little under whelmed at the nightlife offers in Koh Samui. Partly due to the heaving teenagers that accompany their northern European parents on vacation and partly because of the nature of resort nightlife in general. God bless Q Bar, it is perhaps the one good dancing exception while visiting this tropical island hotspot.<br /> <br />The sibling nightclub of the Bangkok original, Q Bar is located at the very mountaintop of a well-traveled nightlife strip with neighboring Ice Bar that serves vodka in sub-freezing temperatures. Why did this ever sound like a good idea? Luckily the neon Q sign and neon-lit terrace seen from across the harbor is just up the hill offering a far more quaff scene. An open-air nightclub with outdoor terrace and indoor lounge space, Q is laid in white and black leather sectionals with long curving bar with impressive view of the city lights even before the Mai-tais start. <br />
Tips
Expect lots of techno interspersed with a few pop classic that make for a raging late-night dance scene whilst the rest of Koh Samui sleeps.
Last Word
We thought it was a drunk hallucination, but an on-site daycare offers groovy play area for children while mom and dad dance and dine the night away.
